What a 5-star hotel breakfast has (and when it ends)
What is actually on the table at Porto's 5-star hotels, hotel by hotel, and until what time it is served. No invented dishes: this is what each hotel lists.
A 5-star hotel buffet is not a bigger buffet. It is a different kind of table: fresh produce replenished in the morning, bread from that day, eggs cooked to order and speciality coffee instead of a capsule machine. This article answers the two questions that always come up together: what is there, and until what time.
Everything below comes from the pages of Morning Club's 14 partner hotels in Porto and Gaia, updated on 1 October 2026. We do not invent dishes: if a hotel does not list something, we do not promise it here.

The table is generated from the database, so it changes when the hotel changes. The options column summarises each house's dietary choices and children's policy.
The five blocks that repeat
Behind the differences, almost every premium buffet in Porto is organised the same way.
- Bakery and pastry. Artisan breads and fresh pastry from that day. It is the part that separates a good buffet from a passing one fastest: bread made to be eaten that morning, not packaged.
- Charcuterie and cheese. Cured ham, sausages and matured cheeses, almost always with preserves alongside. Some hotels put northern Portuguese produce front and centre.
- Fruit and yoghurt. Seasonal fruit, cut in the morning, natural yoghurts and, at some hotels, a counter to build your own bowl.
- Hot, cooked to order. Eggs to order, scrambled, fried or poached, and pancakes at some hotels. It is the only moment when somebody cooks for you, and the one you notice most when it is missing.
- Drinks. Speciality coffee, tea and fresh juices. At a 5-star hotel the coffee should not be the weak link on the table.
What time it starts and what time it ends
This is the practical question. The short answer: most open at 7:00 or 7:30 and close between 10:30 and 11:00, every day, weekends included.
| Hotel | Area | Hours | Same-day booking |
|---|---|---|---|
| InterContinental Porto – Palácio das Cardosas | Aliados | 07:00–10:00 | yes, up to 15 min before |

Three notes worth more than the table.
- Book with an hour to spare before closing. A buffet like this is not eaten in fifteen minutes, and the last half hour is always the most depleted.
- The booking time is your arrival time, not the closing time. If you book at 10:30 at a hotel that closes at 11:00, you have half an hour.
- Weekends fill up later. If you want quiet, book the first hour; if you want the whole morning, book around 9:30.
What changes between 4 and 5 stars
The two 4-star hotels on the list, ArtCore and Casa Falcão, have the lowest prices and do not pretend to be anything else. What changes is not the quality of the produce, it is the scale: fewer stations, a smaller room, fewer people serving.
If what you want is the produce and the price, a 4-star does the job. If you want the room, the service and the occasion, the 5-star hotels justify the difference. The full price comparison is in how much hotel breakfast costs in Porto.
What you will not find
It is worth saying what this is not, so nobody leaves disappointed.
- It is not an à la carte brunch. It is a hotel buffet, with table service for drinks and eggs.
- It is not a fixed per-person menu: you eat what you want from what is laid out.
- There is no guaranteed window table, not even at hotels with a view. That is confirmed on the day.
- It is not a meal to eat standing up and leave. If that is what you need, a neighbourhood café does it better.
Allergies and dietary needs
Most partner hotels have vegetarian options, and several list gluten-free options on their page. The table above shows what each hotel declares.
For a specific restriction, say so when booking or reply to the confirmation email. A hotel kitchen prepares better with a day's notice than with a request made at the dining-room door.
How to book without being a guest
- Choose the hotel on the hotel list and see what is included on its page.
- Book the date, the time and the number of people.
- Pay online and receive the confirmation by email.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before, with an automatic refund. The full mechanism is in the guide to hotel breakfast without staying.
