In the Algarve, the best hour of the day is the first. At eight it is still cool, the beach is empty and the resorts' breakfast rooms have light and space. Two hours later the heat arrives, and in summer everyone arrives at the same time. Anyone who knows the region knows this, but until now only the people sleeping there got to enjoy that hotel morning.

By area
Six of the hotels are in Albufeira, in two different areas, and one is at the other end of the coast, near Sagres.
Albufeira: the Herdade dos Salgados

Albufeira: São Rafael

Costa Vicentina: the Aldeia da Pedralva
The Aldeia da Pedralva is something else: an old rural village, restored, with whitewashed houses and cobbled streets, near Vila do Bispo and Sagres, a few minutes from the wild beaches of the Costa Vicentina. It is also the cheapest breakfast on the list, at 20 euros per person.
Resort or village: what changes at the table
At the Salgados and São Rafael resorts breakfast is a buffet, in large, bright rooms that open onto gardens, pools or terraces. Fresh pastry, seasonal fruit, Portuguese cheeses and charcuterie and hot dishes made to order are the pattern the hotel pages describe. They open at seven and serve until half past ten, eleven or half past eleven, depending on the hotel.
At the Aldeia da Pedralva the scale is small and the pace is that of the Costa Vicentina: it opens at eight and it is the address for anyone on their way to the beach or a trail, not for anyone looking for a resort.

What a resort opens, and what it does not
It is worth being clear about this before turning up at the door with the wrong expectations.
What you book is the breakfast room and the breakfast, in the same room and at the same level as the guests. That is the agreement with the hotel.
What is not included is the rest of the resort: pool, private beach, spa, golf course, gym. None of that comes with breakfast. When a hotel sells experiences separately, they appear on its page as add-ons, with their own price.
Nor is it room service. Room service is something the hotel provides to the people sleeping there, charged separately and with each house's own rules. What you book is a table in the breakfast room, not a tray upstairs.
When to go
- In summer, early. Between seven and nine the room is usually calmer and the heat has not set in yet. After ten, with the region full, the time matters more than the hotel.
- In August, book ahead. It is the month when the most people want the same morning; in the other months there is more leeway.
- Outside the high season is when this morning is worth most: the room half empty, the sea calm and the region left to the people who live here.

When it makes sense
- You are in a rented house or an apartment and want a hotel morning without changing where you sleep. It is the most common case in the Algarve.
- You live in the region. Outside August, a resort morning with an empty room is one of the best things the coast has to offer the people who live here.
- You landed at dawn or fly out in the early afternoon. A booked breakfast solves the morning of a split day.
- It is an occasion. A birthday, a special day, a morning for two without paying for the whole night.
- You want to see the resort before booking a stay. It is the cheapest way to see it from the inside.
When it does not make sense: if you want the cheapest possible meal, an Algarve café does it for a fraction; and if what you want is the resort's pool and beach, that does not come with the booking.
