- Pousada de Lisboa, in a Pombaline building on Praça do Comércio, with the Tagus at the door and the Baixa all around.
- Le Consulat, in Chiado, facing Praça Luís de Camões. A small house, with 18 units.
- Palácio do Governador, in Belém, in the former residence of the governor of Belém Tower, by the Tagus.
- Wine & Books Lisboa, in Ajuda, a few minutes from Belém, devoted to wine and literature.
- LUSTER Hotel, in Arroios, near Saldanha, off the tourist circuit.
In Cascais there are two more, the Grande Real Villa Itália and the Pestana Cidadela Cascais, with an article of their own: hotel breakfast in Cascais. The choice hotel by hotel, with what each one does best, is in the best hotel breakfasts in Lisbon.
How it works
The model is the same one already running in Porto, with no different small print for Lisbon.
- You choose the hotel, the date, the time and the number of people.
- You pay online, with instant confirmation.
- You arrive at the booked time, give your name and sit down. The hotel welcomes you like any other customer.
No room booking needed. No need to know anyone at reception. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before, with an automatic refund. The full mechanism, including the etiquette on arrival, is in the guide to hotel breakfast without staying.
By area
- Baixa. The Pousada de Lisboa is on Praça do Comércio. You start the day in the historic centre and by nine you are on Rua Augusta or at Cais do Sodré.
- Chiado. Le Consulat is on Praça Luís de Camões, between the Carmo and Bairro Alto. It is the right address for a morning on foot around the centre.
- Belém and Ajuda. The Palácio do Governador and Wine & Books Lisboa are both on the western side of the city, near the Belém monuments. They suit anyone who wants to do Belém early, before the queues grow.
- Arroios. The LUSTER Hotel is on Avenida Casal Ribeiro, near Saldanha. It is the choice for anyone who lives or works in the Avenidas Novas and does not want to cross the city for breakfast.
- Cascais. About 40 minutes by train from Cais do Sodré, with the sea in front. It is all in the Cascais article.
For the rest of the city, pastelarias and brunch included, the guide is where to have breakfast in Lisbon.
What it costs
In Lisbon, breakfast costs between 20 and 35 euros per person, depending on the hotel. In Cascais, between 28 and 35. The price is per person and is set by each hotel; the rules for children are in the last column of the table.
In Porto the range runs from 15 to 38 euros. The comparison between the two cities is in Porto or Lisbon, and the full Porto table in how much hotel breakfast costs in Porto.
Hotel breakfast or restaurant brunch
Lisbon has an enviable brunch scene, and this does not replace it. They are different things.
Restaurant brunch is at the weekend, later, à la carte and with a queue at the door. Hotel breakfast is every day, earlier, with a booked table and no waiting. One extends the night before; the other starts the day.
If what you want is a quick, cheap meal, a neighbourhood café does it better and for less. This is for anyone who wants the room, the time and the service.
